MILAN INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR: SEATS 2003

A year later the extension-event Off scales - 50 designers for 50 projects that has characterized the edition 2002, Moroso proposes a diversified and multifunctional offer that comprises Take a line for a walk - a chaise-longue by Alfredo Haberli -, Lux - sitting for lunch table by Carlo Colombo-, The Big E - plastic version of the well-known Ron Arad's armchair -, Osorom - big round seat prototype by Konstantin Grcic -, Sigmund - linear chaise longue designed by Jean Marie Massaud - and Fjord by Patricia Urquiola.
For the first time in 37 years, B&B Italia chooses to discontinue the presentation at the "Salone Internazionale del Mobile" in Milan, traditionally taking place within the fair complex, and presents, in its new Store at via Durini 14, Lazy - a metal frame seat convertible into chaise longue designed by Patricia Urquiola that describes it as "...an undefined creature, resting in the sun or in a corner of the house, whose movements are gentle and lazy" - Mart by Antonio Citterio - a small coffee armchair and an easy chair which are the result of new technology for producing heat-shaped leather - Metropolitan - an easy chair and a chair designed by Jeffrey Bernett expanding the collection first introduced last year.
Cappellini presents Sun chair with arms on a base of four legs or a revolving base with 5 radial supports in chromed metal, designed by Christophe Pillet.
Paco Capdell complete its chairs and stools collection with Lola - chair of extraordinary comfort featuring a flexible back and upholstered frame -, Xuxa - wheelchair with a fresh and modern image that facilitates its adaptation to different spaces -, Bridge - industrial-inspired piece, revisiting the ideas and tendencies reminiscent of Bauhaus - Saxo - a minimalist approach to the armchair - and Bravo - a new stool available in seveal new colors. All designed by Vicente Soto.
This year, The new 2003 Cassina Collection presents Mabelle - dining chair designed by Patrick Jouin and three seats by Hannes Wettstein: Hola - in which the designer attention is fixed firmly on the design of the chair-back - Spin - armchair and its two foot-rests belong to the lounge chair family - and Thor - a mongrel type of seat that accentuates the contamination of the shapes and the ways of using it.
Designed by Stefano Gallizioli, the chaise-longue and the chairs with arms SB01 (both with PVC seat and back) e SB05 (with odum staves seat and back) are the proposals by Coro.
ClassiCon presents Mars - chair with a shell in synthetic resin and cover in fabric or leater designed by Konstantin Grcic.
M1, designed by Piergiorgio Cazzaniga, is one of the new proposals that MDF Italy has realized with the designers Bruno Fattorini, Francesco Bettoni, For Use, Xavier Lust, Donato D’Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi.
Designed by Karim Rashid, Alo - low chair with aluminium seat and back and external cover in polypropylene - is the new linear shaped sitting realized by Magis. The enterprise also presents Chair_One and Stool_One - by Konstantin Grcic -, Lyra Chair and Lyra Low Chair - designed by Group Italia -, Pop, Sedia X, Cinecittà, Mariolina and Mariolino by Enzo Mari, Rocker and Swan by Ron Arad, Air-Chair, Folding Air-Chair and Air-Armchair by Jasper Morrison, Coast Chair and Nimrod by Marc Newson, Tango Chair by Stefano Giovannoni, Eight Chair by Ross Lovegrove, Centomila by James Irvine, Eppo by Marcel Wanders, Pankassa by Denis Santachiara, Nic Chair by Werner Aisslinger, Alo chair and Butterfly again by Karim Rashid.
The birth of the new brand Maxid is marked by a new collection - art-director Emilio Nanni - including the seat Hill designed by Marta Laudani and Marco Romanelli.
In a new light and airy design, four new seats are created by Hannes Wettstein for Molteni & C: Sigma chaise-longue, Delta chair, Zeta armchair and Omicron bar stool. Again by Molteni & C, St. Germain - designed by Paola Navone, is a metal structured armchair covered with leather.
The Kartell Stand presents Mademoiselle - an innovative design for an armchair by Philippe Starck with the clever and new matching of two different plastic materials and finishes: the structure in transparent polycarbonate and the soft seat - and Spoon - slim, curved lines stool, designed by Antonio Citterio, with a handle, inside the leg, to regulate the mechanism of the gas pump. Thus the height of the stool can be raised but the clean line of the whole is preserved.
Modular collection Domodinamica introduces the definitive version of prototypes proposed last year: Kalla armchair designed by Stefano Giovannoni and Popi Pop armchair designed by Modular's Project Studio. All designed by Matali Crasset are also the chair Capuche, the armchair system Interface and Pouff & Supportal Mural - a range of very adaptable and coloured pouff.
For 911 Aldo Cibic has designed CO2 - a chair in bench hesrtwood lacquered in a range of seven colors -, Massimo Morozzi proposes a multi-types of woods version of the 1987 polychrome chair Dry. Also for 911 Marco Ferreri has designed the chairs Foglia and Tesa, the chair, the stool and the table Less Is More and the barstool Polo.
Desalto presents, designed by Pocci Dondoli, the chair Sand in three new versions: with arm rest, in the totally red model and in the new Sand Air with both seat and back in nylon net.
Experimentation and advanced technological research in two authentic "pieces of design" presented by Zanotta: Fly - a seat made of stratified carbon fibre designed by Marc Robson - and Brasilia - a seat made of structural stiff polyurethane created by Ross Lovegrove. Also produced by Zanotta are: Small, Medium, Large and Sun - the first collection of outdoor furniture designed by For Use -, Milord, Lord and Lady - a series of three armchairs designed by Alfredo Häberli - and Lea - new version entirely covered either with cowhide or leather of the best seller item Lia, made in 1999, both designed by Roberto Barbieri.
The new icons Edra are: Au - seat created by Setsu and Shinobu Ito -, Favela - created by Humberto and Fernando Campana - Dip - single-mould polyurethane seats (stool, chair and lounge chair) covered in bioelastic fabric and esigned by the English group Diplomat (Ashley Hall and Matthew Kavanagh) -, Damier - double chaise-longue by Francesco Binfaré.
De Padova presents Cirene 03 - chair, designed by Vico Magistretti, based on the Cirene, designed in 1999: the same wooden chassis is now supported by a structure in curved wood. This modifies and widens the usage possibilities of the chair.
Tokujin Yoshioka has designed for Driade Tokyo-Soft - polyethylene and cotton wool armchair. For the collection Tokyo-Pop - that already includes a dormeuse and an armchair -, Tokujin Yoshioka has also created a new series of rotational plastic stools developed from the geometric distortion of a cylinder.
An year before its presentation at the Fuori Salone 2002, Slide introduces Zoe – an emblematic chair in poliethylen by Guglielmo Berchicci and Twist – small chair in poliethylen designed by Prospero Rasulo.
