Famous architects, designers and sculptors have always used white marble to leave their mark. Glass, material mainly used in architecture and design is the symbol of purity and fragility. The union between the two materials apparently so diverse but substantially similar gives rise to Dressed Stone 2010, to give an opportunity to new talent to express their creativity and see their projects manufactured by Antoniolupi. The contests goal is to identify, from the union between the white marble of Carrara and glass, new shapes of water. The environment of referral is the bathroom and wellness area connected with water. The contest targets young designers / architects and students of architecture or industriai design born between 01/01/1973 and 31/12/1991. The project should consist of a product study for the bathroom where marble and glass have a dialogue amongst themselves. The purpose is to create an innovative design product with packaging for a modern, mobile and international audience, aged 30+, which will be officially adopted by the EESC as a promotional gift for its President, Vice-Presidents and Members to be used during official visits and on other designated occasions. The winning design will be awarded 10 000 Euro and will be produced in a limited edition in 2010 as part of the EESC’s communication strategy. The Memorial for Freedom and Unity is to be erected as a national symbol in the centre of the German capital. Its form and design are to express its special significance and effect. The future Memorial for Freedom and Unity will be located at the plinth of the former national monument for Kaiser Wilhelm 1, at the 'Schlossfreiheit' in Berlin-Mitte. The aim of the competition is to gain concept ideas in the first stage. The works selected should provide a base for development for further processing. It is imperative that by 31st Dec 2008, each participant be 35 years old or younger. Submissions may be individual or representative of a team contribution. If a team is applying, a team leader must be indicated to manage official communications between the award committee and all the team participants. The age limitation set forth above is valid for all team members. It is mandatory that the projects be unpublished - in any manner or form. Infringement of this rule results in exclusion from the competition. Designs in production, submitted to other competitions, previously published or exhibited elsewhere are not admitted. The overall budget for the two works will be 1,130,000 euros. The competition is in keeping with Legislation 717 of 1949, also known as "the 2% law", according to which federal administrations and all public bodies that undertake the construction of new public buildings must devote no less than 2% of the total estimated costs to the production of art works. The indoor work will be installed in the main entrance lobby, a vast and prevalently vertical space, and should be suspended at least 3 meters from the floor. The budget for this work is 430,000 euros. The outdoor work will be freely placed in an area that includes both open spaces and areas covered by projecting architectural volumes, with a maximum height of 5.5 meters. The budget for this work is 700,000 euros. The competition is open to artists of every nation, with the option of participating individually or as a group.
