SPARKLING: A SOURCE PLACE FOR IDEAS

Young, fresh, brilliant. In a word 'sparkling'. They are the ones who have decided to 'be the event' of the new – highly expected – appointment with the world design and with the International Furniture Show 2008 in Milan.

Sparkling springs up, as "event - space -people", where new ideas and new talents of the world of design, communication and creativity will express a very personal vision of present and future, a vision rich of resources and surprising sceneries. This in spite of those who maintain that the 'cultural climat' of this start of 21st Century is just panting and has little substance.

The appointment – at Corso Colombo (at the Maimeri Foundation) in the hottest 'Milan Fuori Salone' area, the Zona Tortona – was a workshop, an agora' of ideas and projects which moves between art and industrial product, giving the perception of a 'circular and open' creative flow, capable of surprizing and of promoting meditations on the future of design.

A primary role will have the firms and designers, whose value will be highlighted in a by-choice-essential context, where idea/design/product will have the ideal space to raise curiosity, and make people discover how much ferment and vitality are inherent in any 'truly' creative act.

If many people live the 'contemporary world' as a time of difficult transition from an era of certainties and values to a still cloudy and instable future, Sparkling fights back with its best antidote: creativity, irony, vitality. Catching in to-day's plurality the key to be protagonists 'to-morrow'.

Exhibitors for Sparkling:

Glix - Fashion & Jewelry design
This year again the brand Glix – sourcing from the creative inspiration of Paola Monorchio, fashion&jewelry designer – keeps punctually the appointment with the Fuori Salone. Always in line with her philosophy, Paola proposes an elaboration in cloth of geometric forms, which produce unexpected volumes and let themselves shape following the body's lines.
The project In-Pack-T will be on stage at the Sparkling event: an "origami" dress consisting of a single strip of cotton and raffia, a coat which can be composed by assembling different sections in pile and nylon. But also a jewel, which, by "decomposing" is transformed into a versatile ornament; at last an amusing straw hat, which will lose its geometric shape when modelled at pleasure on the head.

The Home Key
Young and dynamic brand, with well-defined ideas and projects. From the cooperation with architect and designer Filippo Ghezzani, rises the H Line, where exploring and interpreting new architectural structural components, as IPE beams, give birth to new house complements characterized by essential lines, for a new way of house interpretation.
For the H Table realization the architecture Filippo Ghezzani's glance dwelled upon the beams, supporting architectonical elements visible in a restructuring's phase environment, reinventing them in unusual and solid elements aimed to a daily using object's creation. The two lacquerd wood beams, which substain the extra-white glass sheet, are inspired by the ipe kind. The particoularity of these beams is to represent in section the H letter. In an equilibrium of contrasts and surfaces, the solid strenght of the beams encounter with the purity of an esteemed glass creating a lights and transparences play that, without rinouncing to the geometric severity, gains a delicious formal harmony.
H Chair comes out of an accurate study directed to rivisit the ipe beam - with respect for the proportions and the original design - with the purpose to produce a design object, functional to the forniture and to the daily use. It is infact constituted by a simple and well-visible "H" central ipe beam and by a perpendicular stuffed plane fixed on a side of it. The two elements wich form the object are both made by lacquered wood, with the addition of stuffing on the plane to sit down and on the back. This chair, with its particular form is thought for a person, but also for two persons, it is infact possible to add a second stuffed sitting on the other side of the "H" central: solution that will permit to a second person to sit down. In this case the chair will result particoularly suitable for public locals and restaurants. Availing the line's dash and the alienating effect resulted by the planes' intersection, Filippo Ghezzani creates an object which accepts a challenge: the desire to match architecture with design. Matching that is fulfilled, enriched, complicated and renewed continuosly, to our eyes, in conformity with the perspective we adopt to look at it.
H Twin Sofa comes out of an accurate study directed to rivisit the ipe beam – with respect for the proportions and for the original design – with the purpose to produce a design object, functional to the forniture and to the daily use. Availing the line's dash and the alienating effect resulted by the planes' intersection, Filippo Ghezzani creates an object which accepts a challenge: the desire to match architecture with design. Matching that is really fulfilled, enriched, complicated and renewed continously, to our eyes, in conformity with the perspective we adopt to look at it.
H of New York rises from a great passion. Its designer, wanted to pay homege to New York, the city of a thousand lights, of the skyscrapers, of economy, a city which totally expressed its soul. The home key has transformed these characteristics into an affected and unique object. It is made of two elements only, an IPE beam, in chrome-plated or matted steel, cut, decomposed and re-assembled by the taste of its designer. Effects of light and shadows, gleams and darkenings, contrasts of surfaces, are all calls to the great city which take life.

Hansa
To Hansa, "Experience water" is much more than a product's philosophy; it is a strong feeling, a real "experience" to be lived daily on your own skin through enhanced forms and materials, open flows and scenic water layouts, as it is represented by Hansacanyon and Hansamurano. In 2008, innovation, design, elegance and versatility keep on representing the strong bases of the Group that presents new products such as Hansastela, Hansatwist, Hansa2day, Hansaprado, Hansaclear, Hansapurejet, Hansacube, Hansapublic.
In the form of Hansastela, designers Bruno Sacco and Reinhard Zetsche (Octopus Design) have developed an entire range of fittings for the bathroom which picks up on the theme of "Experiencing water". With an attractive price level, Hansastela fittings open up this range to a wider target group. Advanced technology and uncompromising design are united in this range of fittings. With its contoured design and a lever mixer reminiscent of a joystick, it can be easily integrated into modern environments and lends bathrooms an individual and modern flair.
Particularly popular among the sanitary ware trade, the Hansaprado and Hansatwist, fittings ranges now shine anew. The revised design and new details are an answer to today's bathrooms: both ranges combine modern design with traditional values and high demands on function and durability. The fittings have stayed true to their basic design but the traditional features have been translated into a less ambiguous design language. With the Hansaeco 60+ control cartridge, it avail of the tried-and-tested technology which has convinced professionals in the sanitary ware trade as well as end consumers for many years. From the water brake through pre-adjustable water volume restriction to the hot water lock, the cartridge ensures both economy and safety.
Hansa2day, already launched successfully onto the market in 2006 as a surge hand shower with dual function – is now showing its true colours as a trendy bathroom accessory. In the future, the hand shower tray will be available in warm red, fresh yellow, luxurious black and elegant silver as well as subtle white – for even more individuality in the bathroom. Hansa2day makes the choice between a surge spray and a active spray a daily showering pleasure as the hand shower can do both - made possible by a tilt function in the shower head.
Designers Michael Lammel and Bertrand Illert (NOA Design) have developed an unusual shower range in the form of Hansaclear. The focus is on the two Hansaclear and Hansaclear lux hand showers where the shower head reflects the clarity and purity of water: it is completely transparent to reveal the water flow inside the shower head. The Hansaclear lux variant is also illuminated from within by means of LEDs whose colours can be changed at the touch of a button.
The Hansapurejet hand shower impresses via its particularly flat and light shower head. The fully chrome-plated body visually imitates the soft flow of water. The unusually flat and consistent design exudes lightness, elegance and at the same time dynamism.
In the form of Hansacube, NOA Design has designed a range of thermostats which has a very direct reference to architecture and design as well as complying with maximum demands on purist bathroom interiors. The minimalist square-shaped design lends it an elegant flair. The operating elements are integrated flush into the cube. One particular feature in the bath fitting is represented by the spout which can be swivelled out for use and back in again out of the way when no longer needed. The rounded thermostat handle is positioned centrally thus forming a charming contrast to the basic geometric shapes. The set temperature is indicated in the circular inspection window.
The new Hansapublic, electronic washstand and shower fittings designed by NOA Design, are not only convenient and functional: thanks to their high-quality contoured design, they are suitable for both modern public sanitary facilities and private bathrooms of minimalist design.

Macmamau
The union and blend of creativity of the Ilaria e Sara Patriarca – sisters, an architect and an illustrator –, is generating collections of furnishing complements where aesthetical expressiveness and tactile experience enhance sensorial perceptions. This is Macmamau: shape and technological research with the addition of a graphic world made of words, signs, drawings. It concernes of wooden and steel structures coated with laminate, painted, engraved, patinated, pieces conceived to add a touch of magic to everyday's life.
Line of containers furniture, designed in order to fulfil different utilizations and available in various sizes, made up with a square and sharp-edged body leaned on an asymmetric basement composed of a linear structure and one only polished foot. The foot, clearly different from the rest of the body where its engrafts, inserts itself in the furniture as a extrinsic element, its traditional shape contrasts with the volumes asperity, creating a fine game of imbalance. Geometries are underlined from the colour which draws or frames the constructive elements of the pieces.

Neroacciaio steel & lightart
After long experimentation and research of materials, shapes, colours and light sources, designer Daniele Mazzoleni makes all his creations converge into the brand Neroacciaio. Timeless collections, unique pieces numbered and handcrafted, in steel and resins, which blend to give life to original pieces, where artistic uniqueness meets design.
A 2008 novelty presented at Sparkling: Hot Lamp collection: the sensuality of red, where alternating opaque and clear resins outline reflections and refractions, so far only allowed to glass.

Francesca Zoboli
Attentive and sensitive to trends in fashion, design, art and contemporary architecture, Francesca Zoboli aims at articulating and organically integrating the decoration project in space and environment. The studio she founded, L'O di Giotto, boasts of such customers as Fratelli Rossetti and Kenzo. Francesca combines the interior decorator activity with pictorial research, particularly applied to materials assembly (among them, paper treated with various techniques, wax, and inks).
Her activity is supported by a pictorial research, focusing particularly on the paper dyeing with wax and ink. Mixing painting and decoration she creates an original language inspired by textiles, wallpapers, ancient painting tecniques, traditional and etnic patterns, plasters, natural textures as wood, leaves, or soil.

Pernici Italian Design Candles
Cereria Pernici present an interactive installation that shows the skills of the company in adapting a craftmade tradition of more than a hundred years to the contemporary Zeitgeist, to create a space not made of mere promotion. On a big wax wall, it will be drawn a projection of the terrestrial globe, upon which each visitor will mark his own place of birth thanks to some special coloured markers: in this way the different composition of the visitors of the exhibition will be visually revealed, giving birth to a particular form of "diary". During The Fuori Salone Sparkling Event, a series of new limited edition candles was presented.

Roberto Rovetta
He is a pure, rigorous, logical designer, essential in the forms and imaginative in finding functionality. His projects awaken a double vision, a double spirit, between imagination and geometric study, between poetry and mathematics. The passion for art and mechanics, always bring him to express a strong sense of ambivalence between the abstract and the concrete, giving every project a challenge to interpret and comprehend. The style, strong and decisive in his projects, naturally follows an individual path that takes one outside of the usual schemes, but always seems to find just the right setting.
Rarely lightning strikes the imagination giving form to a new object, a new form, or a new role. The majority of the time, after a request that defines the boundaries in which the imagination navigates, one begins an exploratory path between the existing and the imaginary, arriving almost always at a solution that can solve the problems and stimulate the conscious.
Other projects: duemela prototype for Fiat Auto, Cacstool, Caschè, Ohplà, Sisma and Tamoko.

Francesca Caltabiano
A ballet dancer who has always been interested in minerals, jewelry, cinema and fashion. She is a graduate of The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Francesca took her degree in fashion merchandising from FIT and coupled it with the diploma she earned from the Gemological Institute of America, where she worked for several years. Currently, Francesca lives in Florence, where she creates jewelry while rediscovering her Mediterranean roots.
As an artist, she continually draws from these sources of inspiration and adds her personal touch to create unique jewelry design collections: America, Camaleonte, Dalia Nera3, Opulenza Romantica, Piccolinis.

Draga Obradovic & Aurel K. Basedow
Graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti with a degree in painting in 1988. She started to work designing women's collections and she attempts to achieve a union between painting and style. She achieved the ultimate expression of this desire in textile design - for examples at the event Sparkling shows sedia girevole, , poltroncina anni 60', poltrona di Lingeri, tavolino and sofà. Through the years she has refined her own unique painting technique directly on fabrics, which has allowed her to create a unique collection in which colors, styles and textiles meet.
Her husband, Aurel K. Basedow is a german artist whom has recently chosen to exalt the potentialities of the resin strongly resorting to a picturesque expressivity. With the application of resins and pigments, the objects that he has treated (walls, pieces of furniture and design items) endure an unexpected transformation and become unique and rare pieces of art.

free:go
Designed by Giangi Razeto, the innovative transforming handles, with universal mechanism, and the grip being offered in different shapes, The latest creation is the Leo (Lighting Eccentric Objects): a luminous handle that breaks from the current rigid standard. It allows each grip to fit the atmosphere of the room or location where it is placed. The handle becomes like jewellery, to wear and switch according to the mood, the season or the furnishing.
In 2003, with the brand free:go, sectional multifunctional system of door handles with interchanging grips, he nomineed to prize N.M.M.A.Innovation Award at the IBEX conference in Miami, in November received a special mention at the DAME design competition at METS (Marine Equipment Trade Show)in Amsterdam.
Giangi Razeto won with Leo, Platinum Adex (Award Design Excellence) 2005/06. His Handles were on stage in 2004 at the Chelsea Hotel in New York, during the ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair). In 2006 he's invited to partecipate to SaloneSatellite in Milan, the very first event to focus entirely on young talent. An event that is a highly prized credential for young designers. He is one of the seven Italian designers who have been selected as top nominees for Index:Award 2007, the biggest design award in the world that is presented every two years in Copenhagen to the most interesting solutions of "design to improve life".

Maria Pina Pintus
Moved by great passion for ornament in general, Maria Pina Pintus realizes jewelry collections where make and invention of new forms transcend the matter. Maria Pina makes use of poor materials like resins, copper threads, gold bronze and german silver, which are enriched by crystals, pearls, opals and hard stones. The pleasure for experimentation, the patience and great manual skills are the essence of her creations which are of great impact and fashion because they are different, unusual and often sole pieces.
Jewelry is joined by objects for the house with both ornamental and use functions, made in new shapes with an antique flavour : steel baskets with a medieval flavour, crystal cups wrapped in spires, interlacing of copper or silver threads joined with a particular soldering technique, which characterizes their originality.

Tracy Kendall
Her work is based on seeing interiors, sometimes her own, and translating elements of the interior into wallpaper which can then be re-introduced back into the room. Tracy supposes her wallpapers look so different because she's not trying to mass-produce anything. She wants them to convey a strong idea but not to dominate the room so much that that there is not room for anything else. The wallpaper designs she produces are all starting points and can be changed to fit with the clients' interior.

Il Gusto dell'Architettura
It's a fusion between Food and Garden Design that comes from the idea of an "ephemeral" space. Part of the stage could be eaten by visitors. The taste will be appealed and in the meantime the shapes and the spaces will continuously change. Creators of the setting are Francesca Fadalti and Daniele Rebora Corti, Architetcs specialized in Bars, clubs, fleshspots, discoteques. The key words of their style are Design, Ambience and Play.

Viola
Viola rises from the great passion for flowers and all that goes around them. Simona Frangi and Carlo Ronzoni driven by a continuous research on anything that can be elegance and innovation, are able to realize different setting proposals, after long experience in the flower business. The firm is dynamic, in continuous motion, young and innovative, founded in 2007 after a series of researches dictated, above all, by the will to create what may be hard to find in nature. Projects turned into reality complying with the desires of their customer base, from a mere birthday to the sets of great marriages and events, supported by winning teams on all fronts. Transforming any space and creating visions totally different from how it may have been started, they daily re-create green and flowerful settings to go along with furnishing elements in hotels, showrooms and housings. In the setting of Fuorisalone, they re-create Flower Design; the sense of the garden of taste, where food, architecture and vegetal world blend in continuous evolution.
The more attent eyes will have the surprise of catching the great settings created by Viola within the halls of the original Salone del Mobile, understanding the difference in every realization.

Jan Contreras
He works as an independent designer for other companies and for his own brand PUREPUR for which he developed a number of seats for combined indoor and outdoor use produced out of one single raw material, being Poly Urethane. In the summer of 2006 the first collection is going online. It was selected for exhibition for the first time a few months later at the "Young designers Fair" - Interieur '06 in Kortrijk-Belgium. The response was an enormous success. This first collection of objects consists of a group of rebellious seats with a very architectural profile characterized by pure basic forms and lines. The honest and straight lines of the objects have always been thoroughly studied in function of the ergonomic proportions. Each object is a sculpture without completely revealing its function at first sight. Multifunctional usage creates interaction and enforces the relationship between the object and the user.
