 TARGETTI ART LIGHT AWARD 2003

Also this year - deadline fixed to June, 6 2003 - the third edition of the Targetti Art Light Award - a biennial international competition open to up-and-coming artists under the age of 35 - asks young artists to create "light emotions".
Since 1997, the two Targetti Collection devoted to the Light Art and the White Light had enriched themselves by the contributions of several artists. Clara Luiselli,Attilio Tono, Nicola Toffolini, Carlo Bernardini, Carlo Nonnis, Hidetoshi Nagasawa, Shinji Yamamoto, Franco Ionda, Fabrizio Corneli, Anne e Patrick Poirier, Patrizio Travagli,Tanja Pak e Federico Biancalani, are only few names included in the private gallery of the tuscan enterprise. A lot of artworks and luminous installations linked by the common denominator of electric light.
Remenbering the results of previous editions, the Targetti Art Light Award - and obviously the collections - constitutes a gained challenge of a not short-sighted entrepreneurship, mainly focussed on "culture" (see the contribution Culture as an added-value for enterprises by Barbara Giannessi) that was been able to develop and realize a prestigious and stimulating patrimony in which cohabit the experiences and the ideas of usually unlinked worlds: culture, technology and entrepreneurship.
For the 2003 award edition, whilst observing certain formal criteria, the artists may use any lighting material and technology, as well as availing themselves of specialist advice from Targetti's technicians in order to optimise the expressive potential of light in their work.

The participants may choose to compete in two categories:
  • Light Works (installations on a 120x120 cm vertical support);
  • Light Sculptures new category of the White Light Collection (plastic works on a horizontal support, where every component is completely white).

    Prizes of 6,000 Euro and 3,000 Euro are previewed. Furthermore, the works will become part of the the only European collection exclusively dedicated to Light Art and will be included in its catalogue and exhibition program.

    The works will be judged by international jury chaired by Steven D. Lavine and composed by Stefania Aluigi, Umberto Allemandi, Amnon Barzel, Alessandra Mammė, Marino Golinelli, Nigel Coates and Paolo Targetti.
