 TECNOALABASTRO. Innovation for alabaster

Tecnoalabastro is a research financed with some funds of the Regione Toscana in co-operation with the European Union (law 2981/93) and will be carried on by Klaus Koenig Studies Centre and the Process and Methods Department of Architecture Faculty, Florence University. It aims at testing the existence of new uses of the traditional stone of Volterra. In particular, it should test its adaptability for new objects, complements and finishings in interior decoration.
These projects, highly innovative from a formal point of view, are based on an important historical analysis and on considerations about the actual possibilities to introduce formal innovation in this field, which has remained very traditional during the years.
Other uses are worth mentioning as well; in fact there have been several attempts to reuse production scraps and rejects to manufacture objects for the gift market and flooring materials.
